The Long Road Ahead

Here is a picture of what remains of a package of newborn diapers that Sofi hijacked yesterday while we were setting up the nursery. (Okay, she officially did it while Lance was playing the Wii and I was at a church meeting. Just a sign to Lance what is to come when he leaves the baby unattended! Yet another reason I do not like video games.)
She tore up half of the diapers to bits, spreading them all over our backyard and then managed to strew the rest near our sprinkler system. This morning I discovered 40 destroyed and water logged diapers in the backyard when I went out to play fetch with her.
*Sigh.* She was kinda sad yesterday as we were setting up the nursery, putting together baby swings, etc. She knows something is coming to change her life and I am assuming this is why she took the diapers. She is acting out like any older sibling would. Any advice on how to prepare this little beagle for her baby sister to come home????

Of Bras and Beagles

Why this beagle has a fetish for bras is beyond me. Here is one she pulled out of the laundry basket a few days ago and snuck out to the backyard while I took a nap. She LOVES to chew on them. Maybe the padding is therapeutic to her teeth and gums? I think it is because they smell like me and she wants to carry my scent around with her all day. Who knows. One thing is for sure, we love this dog like she is our child and I will be crushed when she eventually dies. She is definitely our "first born" and is so darn adorable.
(I do discipline her quite regularly, though. After I took this picture she was sent to timeout in the backyard for an hour or so without my bra as punishment.)

Let the Nesting Begin!

Yesterday was my last day of work at my full time job. As sad as I am to say goodbye to my great co-workers, I am THRILLED to no longer be working. Working 30 hours a week and going to grad school full time was way too much for this 34 week pregnant woman. Something had to go and luckily, it was my job and not my schooling.

I can't wait to tackle the nursery, print off pictures that have been sitting on our computer for almost a year now, catch up on scrapbooking, thoroughly clean the house and cook meals again. Only six more weeks until this little girl is scheduled to arrive so I am anxious to get on top of things before she comes.

Here's to sleeping in as much as I can until May!

Defy Gravity

February 28, 2008
  • Our first trip to Los Angeles.

We saw the musical "Wicked" and ate at an Italian restaurant on Hollywood and Vine.  ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. If you have the chance to go see this musical, do it! You won't be disappointed (though you may never look at the Wizard of Oz, the Wicked Witch or Glinda the Good the same again.) Though, make sure you carpool if you are planning to go to LA to see it because the traffic is worse than you can imagine on a Thursday night around 4 p.m.

Thank you Bubba for these tickets for my birthday. BEST GIFT EVER (and the baby liked the music as well so I am sure she agrees.)

This is for Heidi....

And here I thought I had a black thumb! A year later, my small Christmas cactus decided to bloom again, proving I can keep a cactus alive even if I kill every other live plant we have in our house.
This is dedicated to my little brother's fiance, Heidi, who loves these plants. Hope you are proud, Heidi!

Blooms in February

One thing I love about California is the fact that the weather is so nice in the winter and spring seems to come earlier here than in the artic of the Midwest.
Here is tree that is right outside our kitchen window. The blooms showed up around Valentine's Day and have been showering our backyard with a coat of white blossoms ever since. When it has been around 10 degrees in Minnesota, I just look at my flowering tree, breathe in the sweet blossoms and count my blessings I can put my winter coat away for now.

My Big Brother

Tom and Kristi after a long day of sightseeing. I look pretty tired in this picture.
However, the sunset on the beach was very pretty.

Tom, my older brother, came to visit about a month ago. I just now downloaded the pics so I wanted to post a few. We had a great time - spent a day in San Diego which included lunch at the Fish Market, a tour of the Midway aircraft carrier, a walk around Corona del Mar beach, and an authentic German dinner at German deli in Carlsbad complete with sour kraut and bratwurst.

Sofi, our ever curious beagle, trying to see what was going on.

I was very sad to see him go only after spending two days with him. I had a lot of fun playing games, chatting and just being with my big brudder. We even got to celebrate his birthday a few days late. I sure wish he lived closer.
